First aid
On the 16th of April me and my classmates took part in a three-day first aid course. On the first day of first aid we went through the basics of first aid and focused a lot on the theory of it, looking at signs of a stroke, what do if someone’s been stabbed or broken a bone or even a spraint wrist. We were shown by our first aid teacher how to bandage up a cut hand or a scrap and to make slings for people with broken arms.
On our second day of first aid we spent most of it doing the practical work such as putting people into the recovery position, what to do if someone is choking, what to do if someone has a seizure and most importantly learning how to do CPR and work the defibulator. I really enjoyed doing the CPR and working with the defib as it is a very useful and practical thing to have and could protentionally save lives.
On the final and third day was our test, we did a quick bit of revision up until 10.30am from then I on we began our practical part of our test where we had to react the proper way to a scenario where CPR was involved which I was very happy with myself and how I responded to the situation, then we started our written part of the exam and I was delighted to see I had gotten 20/22 and they take your best 20 answers so I was really happy with myself and with the work I put into it. I think this course should be mandatory for all schools and workplaces to teach people what to do in real life situations where someone might need CPR or even a defib. I really loved doing this course and I would highly recommend it to anyone thinking about doing the course or a similar one to it.
