week 2 of work experience
. Work experience
On Monday the 26th of February I began my second placement of work experience. I was doing my work experience in Dublin City Council in Planning and Development. On Monday I was briefed about what I was going to be doing and what they were doing, I was even given a swipe card to be able to enter all these facilities and much more. I shadowed my supervisor Terry O’Neill handling and dealing with the clients filling out planning permission forms and objection forms. After shadowing Terry for a few clients I began stepping in helping the clients with the forms, slowly I began to understand and I picked it up being able to deal with clients without my supervisors help, My job consisted of doing planning application forms out for people and objection forms, collecting planning applications where people had made mistakes in them and guiding their way through fixing them getting the maps of each area in Dublin and by law books for people studying the area, photocopying documents for people as proof for a receipt or just if they need the documents for their solicitors, Also if people need documents of when their homes were built before 2000 and the information wasn’t stored onto computers I could get it up for them on the micro fiche machines. I did most of these jobs if not all of them every day helping people up until Wednesday when the snow came down and I couldn’t finish my work experience.
I am now continuing on my work experience the following week for the last two days just doing the same work. I really enjoyed doing this work experience as I felt like it gave me a real sense of working in a real job and being pushed and put out my comfort zone to deal with clients and help guide them through the difficult process of planning permission or other inquiries, it was tough going but I am glad I did it and it will definitely prepare me for a real life job with my knowledge I have now
